The Leary Traveler – A Dog-Friendly Ballard-Fremont Pub

Have you been to The Leary Traveler? This dog-friendly pub is located between Ballard and Fremont in the neighborhood known as Freelard or Ballmont, depending on who you ask.

The Leary Traveler dog friendly bar in FreelardJoe and I ventured out on a Saturday evening with Bondi and Homie in tow to grab drinks and a light dinner at this neighborhood pub.

On first impression, Leary Traveler inexplicably reminds me of the winter holidays… the kind of place you go after a day on the slopes or when you’re snowed in or without power. Maybe it was the dismal weather, maybe it was the jovial atmosphere in the pub. But it was festive, and I love me some holiday cheer!

You know what else I love? A clearly defined dog-policy:

Did you notice the asterisk that reads “Service Animals Only. No Questions Asked”? Yeah, me neither…

Leary says “Man’s best friend is a friend of ours so long as they’re friendly” and I have to say, the staff and the patrons were all so great to us. It’s pretty special to feel completely welcome with two huge black dogs.

This is extra-special because Leary Traveler is no dive bar. They have table service and a menu full of scrumptious choices. I mean, heck… they have Coffee Seared Elk New York Strip Steak!

I guess you could say Leary Traveler is a GastroPub. We had the savory Mussels Provencal which were hands down the most tasty mussels I’ve had in recent memory… anywhere, let alone at a bar!

The dogs agreed. I mean, they thought the mussels smelled really fabulous anyway….

I’m not a sweet potato fries kindove gal, but they are rumored to be A-MAZE-SAUCE. Just saying.

And did I mention the beverages?

Leary Traveler has a fine selection of craft beers on draft, and an extensive selection of bottled Belgium beers (plus all the liquor you would expect to find in a fine establishment).

I had the Nitro Left Hand Milk Stout… or two. And between the beers and my mussels, I left happy as a clam.

We really enjoyed the Leary Traveler and will most certainly be back. We plan to check out the Happy Hour, which looks to be a great deal:

I just wish it were more conveniently located, and then it would be on our regular rounds!
